SABIC introduces new High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) blow molding grade for packaging of milk, juice and dairy products
April 18, 2012 – SABIC® HDPE BM6246LS is a newly developed blow molding grade used in blow molded milk, juice and dairy packaging bottles. It is specifically designed for superior performance through improved organoleptics with increased environmental friendliness. The superior stabilization package in SABIC® HDPE BM6246LS ensures superior organoleptic properties, even after multiple extrusion steps. This is especially important while using higher percentages of regrind. With improved thermal stability performance during recycling activities, and no compromise on its excellent organoleptic properties, SABIC® HDPE BM6246LS is set to make a major contribution to recyclability and sustainability which are key to today's packaging industry.
SABIC® HDPE BM6246LS has a unique combination of high flow and a balance of toughness and stiffness, which allows processors to stretch the limits of reducing the weight of products without sacrificing product performance. The higher thermal stability and lower sensitivity to thermal degradation of SABIC® HDPE BM6246LS will allow processors to experience shorter start-up times on their machinery which in turn will increase line efficiencies and hence reduce the cost of production. The superior thermal stability of SABIC® HDPE BM6246LS will also allow multiple recycling opportunities which in turn will contribute to lowering the overall carbon footprint.
Blow molded stadium/auditorium chairs using SABIC® HDPE BM1052 and B5429

It is in this close collaborative spirit that SABIC® HDPE BM1052 and B5429 have been developed for. These products are used for stadium and auditorium chairs, applying the blow molding process.
The products have been developed in association with a leading furniture manufacturer, offering cheaper manufacturing solutions. They remove the need for expensive molds and high capacity injection molding machines. They also offer wider design flexibility as well as energy savings, and are lighter, recyclable, and can utilize regrind – which contribute to SABIC's efforts on sustainability and environmental protection.
SABIC launches new resins to reinforce its strong portfolio of thermoplastics for healthcare
April 18, 2012 – In target applications, such as for the internal and external components of drug delivery devices, typical industry requirements range across biocompatibility, sterilizability, chemical resistance, impact resistance, wear resistance, anti-static properties and ease of processing and aesthetics. SABIC has numerous options to meet these challenges, including grades based on ABS, polycarbonate, thermoplastic polyesters (PET and PBT), polyphenylene oxide and siloxanes, as well as high and low density polyethylenes and polypropylene. The company has cost-effective solutions for syringes, injection pens, inhalers and other related products.
To emphasize this point, SABIC is offering a new family of PE grades, including a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resin featuring high flow properties that can significantly reduce injection molding cycle times for various healthcare products. With a melt flow rate of 30 g/10 min, SABIC® HDPE PCG300054 provides important processing advantages that yield lower system costs for healthcare product manufacturers.
SABIC® HDPE PCG300054 resin is typically suitable for injection molding thin-wall, long flow parts such as disposable syringe pistons, as well as caps and closures for medical and pharmaceutical packaging. High flow facilitates complete mould filling and enables the use of thin-wall geometries that cool rapidly for cycle time reduction. This translucent resin balances stiffness with improved levels of environmental stress cracking resistance to ensure durability under a variety of uses and conditions.
SABIC’s broad product offering of more than 50 high performance materials is backed by a strong logistical network and ample material supplies to ensure continuous global availability.

SABIC’s bimodal HDPE family meets growing challenges of the film industry
April 18, 2012 – The production of high quality thin blown film is now possible with a family of advanced bimodal high density polyethylenes (HDPE) from SABIC. There are currently two grades in the family, SABIC® HDPE FI0644 and a higher density grade with higher flow, SABIC® HDPE FI1157.
Both grades have high molecular weight and a broad molecular weight distribution. These characteristics translate into effective processability that will allow for the minimizing of disruptions during film production; all of this combined with good mechanical properties in the blown film. The low gel levels lead to consistent film production and a smooth film surface. Film makers can also achieve acceptable gauge tolerances at very low thicknesses. As an added bonus, both grades can be processed at temperatures of around 10-20 degrees lower than a typically common HDPE grade.
SABIC® HDPE FI1157 can be used for the production of lamination films, release films, inliners, labels and artificial paper. Converters will be able to increase the efficiency and performance of their operations by using significantly less material while still producing film with adequate stiffness and strength. Furthermore, due to its superior dart impact properties, the bimodal HDPE film offers downgauging options as compared to common HDPE film.
SABIC® HDPE FI0644 is, due to its toughness and impact properties, typically designed for applications which require extra strength. Films made from SABIC® HDPE FI0644 have superior impact properties and offer more value for typical target applications like heavy duty bags, inliners, meat bags, grocery sacks and carrier bags.
Films made with SABIC® HDPE FI0644 and SABIC® HDPE FI1157 exhibit a strong combination of stiffness and tear resistance, making them materials of choice to meet the continuously growing market challenges of the film industry.
SABIC’s new high density polyethylene for caps and closures
April 18, 2012 – The caps and closures industry represents a significant share of the world's consumer packaging market. The packaging industry faces the challenge of aiming to save material and energy costs as much as possible, while still providing high performing products. SABIC has introduced new High Density Polyethylene CC453 in order to capture market share in packaging for the juice, water, milk and dairy segments. The new grade has a unique combination of processability and end product quality that is necessary for liquid food packaging applications.
HDPE CC453 is known for its organoleptic properties that are important in preserving taste and odour. It is also a perfect product for still water cap applications. The grade complies with food contact directives which are essential for ever increasing global concerns over product safety and purity. It is also suitable for making caps by injection and compression molding processes.
Recently, SABIC has successfully introduced its HDPE CC862 grade for still water caps by injection molding process. This also has organoleptic properties. The product was well accepted in the market and well perceived by customers who encouraged extending its use to cover a wider spectrum of caps and closure and processing techniques.
