Dr Abdulrahman Al-Ubaid

Vice-President, Research & Technology
Before his current assignment, Dr Al-Ubaid was the Vice-President of SABIC's new strategic business unit dedicated to polymers, which is responsible for the polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC and polyester departments. He was appointed to the role in November 2006, adding PVC and polyester to his previous responsibilities.
Dr Al-Ubaid joined SABIC in 1989 as the Director of Development at the SABIC Industrial Complex for Research and Development (R&D). In 1996, he was promoted to Director General of R&D, responsible for SABIC’s overall research and development activities.
Following organizational changes, his title was changed into Executive Vice-President of Research and Technology. He played an important role in the establishment and management of SABIC’s state-of-the-art research and technology complex.
During his employment at SABIC, he has been President of the Intermediates strategic business unit and chairman of the boards of directors for two of our affiliates: the Saudi Methanol Company (AR-RAZI) and the Saudi European Petrochemical Company (IBN ZAHR). He has also been Chairman of SABIC's Technical Committee.
Before working at SABIC, Dr Al-Ubaid was Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at the King Saud University in Riyadh. Dr Al-Ubaid graduated in Chemical Engineering from the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. He obtained his master’s degree from the University of California and gained his PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, USA.
