SABIC has pioneered a system of partnerships in our manufacturing activities that is often cited as a model for industrial progress in developing countries. This strategy is central to our business growth. To create our advanced manufacturing plants, SABIC enters into joint ventures with industry leaders from around the world. We offer a share in our resources in exchange for technology and expertise in human resources and global marketing.

In Saudi Arabia, SABIC consists of 17 world-class manufacturing affiliates. Eight of these are joint ventures with foreign partners and six are joint-venture partnerships with local and regional private-sector investors. Three are wholly owned by SABIC. Most of our affiliates in Saudi Arabia are based in the Al-Jubail industrial city and in Dammam on the Arabian Gulf. Others are based in Yanbu on the Red Sea.

Our newest operational affiliate is a wholly owned subsidiary of SABIC called the Jubail United Petrochemical Company (UNITED). In 2005, we laid the foundation stone for one of our latest ventures, the Yanbu National Petrochemical Company (YANSAB). Based at Yanbu, this will be one of the world’s largest petrochemical complexes. SAUDI KAYAN, which is currently under formation, will be SABIC’s 18th affiliate. The new company, which is expected to go on stream in 2009, will produce a range of petrochemicals, some of them to be introduced for the first time in the Saudi market.
