Our aim
If it were up to us, not an ounce of value would be lost from hydrocarbon resources anywhere in the world. Because advances in technology can bring us closer to achieving this, research is vital to SABIC’s business.
SABIC’s Technology and Innovation division works closely with our strategic business units to help us improve our manufacturing processes and develop new technologies. These innovations strengthen our technical know-how and give us a vital competitive edge, allowing our affiliates – and our customers – to improve the quality of their products. SABIC filed 103 new patents in 2006 bringing SABIC’s total thus far to 870. The company has been granted 377 patents so far. We currently license our process technologies to more than 19 chemical companies in 11 countries.
Our technology and innovation centers
Our integrated, state-of-the-art Industrial Complex for Technology and Innovation opened in Riyadh in 1994. Today it employs over 500 scientists working on a full range of R&T activities. It also houses our environmental and industrial hygiene services. SABIC has 16 Technology and Innovation (T&I) and application centers across the globe, including seven in the Americas, four in Asia, three in Europe, and two in the Middle East.
Cross-national development
These centers are at the heart of our program of ‘cross-national development’, a term that describes our focus on developing technology in the location where it will be most useful. Our success in doing this has enabled our expansion across different markets and countries.
Our T&I activities in different countries have given us the technical expertise to provide outstanding customer service, which for us is a matter of pride. Thanks to our local bases, we’re always close to our customers to provide technical support. Please see Customer Technical Support for more information.
Technology and Innovation growth
We foresee great opportunities for growth in our Technology and Innovation division. We are working with universities, national research centers and other partners from the public and private sectors to develop our research capacities in order to remain at the forefront of technology in our business.
