Asia Pacific, January 25, 2021 – With its outstanding performance in talent strategy and longstanding commitment to personal development, SABIC, a world leading diversified chemicals company, has been officially recognized as the “Top Employer Asia Pacific” for the eighth consecutive year. Organized by the Top Employer Institute, a globally accredited certification body, SABIC also received the “Top Employer 2021" awards in five of its key Asian markets – China for the eleventh year, and India, Japan, Singapore and South Korea for the past eight years. The award also acknowledged the company’s unwavering commitment to its employees in a year that has been shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic. SABIC puts the safety and wellbeing of its people first as it continued to navigate the unprecedented challenges resulting from pandemic.

The Top Employers Institute program certifies organizations based on the participation and results of their HR Best Practices Survey. This survey covers 6 HR domains consisting of 20 topics such as People Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning, Well-being and Diversity & Inclusion and more.

With health and safety of the workforce top of mind, SABIC undertook comprehensive precautionary measures across Asia to safeguard its employees. Local situations in each country across APAC were closely monitored. Government regulations were stringently adhered to and robust safety management practices were regularly assessed and modified according to the fast-changing developments on the ground.

Despite the limitations presented by the pandemic, the situation has propelled the HR team towards creative thinking and problem solving to ensure employees had the right resources at their fingertips, and newly launched programs remain relevant to employees in the reshaped environment. This included implementing various initiatives to help digitize workloads, streamline operations, and provide numerous learning and growth opportunities for individuals.

The introduction of a unified CRM system for HR globally has helped centralize all applications into one workflow. The ‘HR One Platform’ sees the automation of the recruitment process, thereby easing the workloads of recruiters and new hires. Additionally, existing employees are offered seamless experiences in managing internal processes, including overseeing employee transfers and succession planning, which can all be done from the safety of their homes.

The Learning Management System (LMS) sits within the platform and aims to foster life-long learning through over 130,000 useful virtual courses easily accessible and joint social learning groups to aid employee development and nurture a more competitive talent pool. Since launch, the company has increased its e-learning hours in the region by 54%. In addition, SABIC recognized the unique circumstances of the ongoing health crisis and its impact on individual’s mental wellbeing and introduced a series of virtual mental wellbeing sessions to support its employees psychologically and assist in managing stress.
