SABIC is committed to investing in science and technology education. Contributing to such programs helps us to expand a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) talent pipeline for SABIC’s future workforce.

At Teesside in the UK, we continued our Engineering Summer School Program for the third consecutive year. This year, we invited 18 engineering undergraduates from Teesside University's School of Science, Engineering and Design to participate in the three-day workshop, which featured a range of practical and theoretical exercises to boost confidence and develop the hard and soft skills needed to start careers in engineering.

In the Netherlands, we invited students from the Roncalli Scholengemeenschap school to visit our Bergen op Zoom facility for Girls Day in April. The event, developed in partnership with the Dutch Organization for Women in Higher Technical Education, introduced girls to science, technology, and information technology as career possibilities. Members of the SABIC Women’s Network helped to facilitate a tour, and shared insights about technical educational paths and career opportunities.

In Vietnam, we expanded our signature Back to School program to sponsor eight students in partnership with ChildFund Vietnam in Hanoi and the Saigon Children’s Charity in Ho Chi Minh City. Through this program, first launched in 2012, we pay educational expenses for the year, including tuition, uniforms, and textbooks. We encourage the students and their peers to excel in their education and give back to society as adults.

In the United States, SABIC sponsored the opening reception of the annual Society of Automotive Engineers Foundation gala in Detroit, helping to raise funds for STEM education programs. In addition to supporting a priority focus area, we benefited by raising our profile with strategic customers in the auto industry, including General Motors, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, Nissan, North American Lighting, and many others.

In Saudi Arabia, we formed a strategic partnership with the Al Eradah Society for Talented People with Disabilities, holding interviews at the SABIC Academy to find young talent as part of the society's Ammar initiative. In its second year, the initiative targets creative talents in four regions of the Kingdom: Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern Province.
