Our approach

Biodiversity interactions occur across SABIC's operations and value chain, including potential impacts from land use, land degradation, desertification, deforestation, and changes in ecosystem condition. Understanding these interactions enables informed risk management, opportunity identification, and responsible decision-making. Preliminary assessments map locations where biodiversity interactions are most significant, guiding prioritization of resources and risk-based approaches across its global operations.

2025 developments

SABIC launched a biodiversity assessment program to build a deeper understanding of its impacts and dependencies on nature. The initiative integrates company-level analyses, petrochemical-sector-focused evaluations, and targeted site-level assessments across selected assets in Europe and Saudi Arabia. These assessments identify nature-related risks and opportunities, inform strategic responses, and lay the groundwork for measurable future performance indicators. The program also strengthened external engagement, including site visits and knowledge exchange with peer industries, benchmarking of best practices and enhancing internal capability.
