SABIC At Bfa Istif: Highlighting Innovation Strength, And Commitment To Global Sustainability
The 2nd Boao Forum for Asia (BFA)’s International Science, Technology and Innovation Forum (the Forum) was held from September 28 to 29 in Guangzhou, China. SABIC, a globally leading diversified chemical company, attended the forum as the BFA honorary strategic partner. At the event, SABIC represented the industry’s transformation, by exemplifying itself as a progressive science, technology and innovation corporation; simultaneously, it strengthened its steadfast dedication to sustainability and sustainable growth.
On September 28, during the event’s opening ceremony and plenary session, the Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the Forum’s President, Ho Hau-wah, delivered a keynote speech followed by remarks from distinguished guests, including prominent political figures and organizations representatives across the globe.
Dr. Bob Maughon, Executive Vice President, Sustainability, Technology & Innovation, and Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer, SABIC, delivered a keynote speech via video, stating: “Innovation plays an essential role in delivering a sustainable future. In the face of global issues, the chemical industry must thrive on the ‘circularization’ of the global economy through innovating new manufacturing technology and new products that can connect these closed-end value chains. By creating and providing its state-of-the-art solutions and fostering wider and deeper technological collaboration, SABIC consistently makes an effort to contribute to the global innovation-driven sustainability and prosperity development.”
Additionally, Dr. Olivier Guise, Technology & Innovation Director of APAC at SABIC, delivered a presentation on September 28 at the Forum’s “From Molecular Design to Materials Application” session, showcasing how SABIC's innovative solutions across the value chain can power a sustainable future.
Co-hosted by BFA and China’s Guangdong provincial government, the Forum is one of the signature events under the BFA framework. It aims to advance the establishment of a new structure of global governance for science and technology, and contribute to the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda for United Nations SDGs. Themed around “Innovation Enabling Sustainable Development”, the Forum continued to zoom in on the progress in Asia and beyond and intends to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation in this specific field, as sustainable growth driven by science, technology and innovation is key of tackling crucial global challenges.
