Like all industries, the automotive sector is adapting to the impact of COVID-19, but that has not reduced the urgent need to reduce vehicles emissions.
One of the ways automotive companies can stay in front is making vehicles more lightweight. In collaboration with OEMs and global car brands, SABIC is working on material solutions to lighten components from bumper to tailgate.
Together with Magna Bohemia, who supply parts for automotive brands, SABIC has developed a polypropylene material solution to achieve an optimized 2.5 mm bumper wall thickness, without compromising on durability and impact resistance. It is delivering up to 10% reduction in mass for a possible 7% weight saving.
The collaboration helped contribute to significant cost savings as well as keeping Magna Bohemia and their customers better meet emissions legislation.
