SABIC INTRODUCES COHERE™ S-SERIES THAT ENABLES BETTER SEALING INTEGRITY AND HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY IN FLEXIBLE PACKAGING INDUSTRY

SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, is introducing its COHERE™ S-series, produced using NEXLENE™ technology. It was developed in response to market demand for solutions with more effective sealing properties to better protect its contents, and properties to allow higher production efficiency in the flexible packaging industry. This will potentially support reduction of waste and cost savings.

It is estimated that by 2050, the global population will grow to over 9 billion. With strong need to balance the increasing consumption rate and rising consciousness for sustainability, the market requirement and pressure on packaging industry is very high. 

SABIC® COHERE™, developed in 2017, is a high quality Polyolefin Plastomer (POP) that enables superior sealing performance to reduce contamination and increase shelf-life of products, improved productivity in form-fill-seal packaging machine, and more balanced mechanical properties that reduce damage during handling and transportation. The new COHERE S is an improved series with even lower density and better properties than the original range. 

COHERE S can lower SIT (sealing initiation temperature) by up to 10% and allows higher hot tack force for faster packing speed, better packaging integrity during storage, lower energy consumption during production, and also enables the possibility of packing heat sensitive content. Its good mechanical properties also enables higher speed of production, less film scrap and down-gauging potential for sustainability benefits.  

On top of its sealing performance and high toughness, COHERE S is FDA approved and also provides high clarity to enhance visual attractiveness of packaging on shelf. Targeted applications include packaging for frozen food, pouches for liquid and powder food, lid film, dry food, and compression packaging for hygiene products. It is also suitable for industrial packaging such as co-extrusion protection film, sealant resins for casting and blown films, and stretch wrap and silage films, amongst others.  

COHERE S has been tested by several flexible packaging converters with very positive feedback.
