Server Cooling Components

The rapid growth of AI means more power consumption, tighter hardware density, and hotter operating temperatures. Managing the heat and humidity generated within AI data center servers is critical for long-term durability.

Whether your system utilizes traditional air cooling, direct-to-chip (DTC) liquid cooling, or liquid immersion cooling, SABIC’s specialty thermoplastic resins and compounds can help meet demanding safety and performance requirements.

SABIC’s specialty materials are well suited for potential use in data center server cooling components such as:

Cold plate enclosures

Laser weldable ULTEM™ resin, a polyetherimide, can be easily integrated with thermally conductive metal heatsinks. This hybrid ULTEM resin-metal solution offers a scalable solution with injection molding, design freedom for flow channels and reduced weight versus all metal DTC liquid cooling systems.

Universal quick disconnects (UQDs)

As critical components in liquid cooling systems, the material used for UQDs needs to offer excellent resistance to cooling fluids and dimensional stability to help optimize sealing and reliability. Redesigning metal UQDs with high-strength ULTEM resin can help support scalability and reduce system weight.

Cooling distribution units (CDUs), manifolds, pump housings

Flame-retardant NORYL™ resins are well suited for use in cooling distribution units (CDUs), manifolds, and pump housings, helping to address thermal, electrical, and structural challenges. Its light weight can help to reduce physical load in server chassis or rack-mounted HVAC units.

Fan blades

ULTEM resins can help designers create cooling fans with improved precision and tolerancing for efficient airflow and heat dissipation, while featuring non-halogenated flame-retardant properties that meet UL94 V0 requirements at gauges down to 0.75mm.

Fan housings, air baffles and other air-cooling components

Fan housing and other air-cooling components could benefit from LNP™ ELCRES™ PC copolymers and LNP™ ELCRIN™ compounds which are based on PBT resin formulated using ELCRIN iQ upcycling technology. These products are available with different glass fiber reinforcement percentages, feature non-brominated/non-chlorinated FR, UL94 V0 and 5VA flame ratings, and excellent chemical resistance.
